This is the most photo-replicated place on the route. The most beautiful and transportable place is the bizarre rock formation of the Three Rondavels, where the river Blyde makes a bend. The 26-kilometer canyon itself is of course noticeably smaller than the famous American Grand Canyon or Fish River Canyon in Namibia that I visited in 2013, but unlike them it is covered with subtropical greenery. This scenic road is interesting in itself, but of course the main object of attraction is the canyon of the Blyde River. In summary, we were blown away by absolutely stunning scenery everywhere…if you like trees this is your place!!! So was it worth visiting them all, well yes so worth it, if you’re in the area, why not! The more pricey ones (& not pricey really) were 3 Rondavels & Bourkes luck potholes. Wondavels being one (with a very missable road sign telling you turn off) & in our opinion one of the best views of the Blyde river canyon & one were you hear the eerie screams of Baboons in the distance, very atmospheric. Some view points you pay a small fee to enter, some not. The next day the weather gods were much kinder & we were blown away by the scenery.īerlin & Angel Waterfalls were flowing pretty good too, which were weren’t expecting. Our first day was drizzly with low cloud so low we were driving in it.pretty hairy in places too….especially when you come across a herd of cows in the road! So needless to say, we saw very little but were teased with glimpses of what there was to behold. We felt very safe in the area too, sticking to tourist areas, driving in daylight etc The route was very easy to drive…well sign posted in the most part & with not as many potholes as we were expecting from reading previous reviews! We found the 2 days ample enough to sight see but we didn’t do any long hikes. We used Graskop as our base & which worked perfectly

We spent two full days in the area, tagging it on to a trip in Kruger NP.
